Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil

Okay everyone, I have another Sunday Riley product to talk about and no surprise but it's amazing!
Luna uses a trans-retinol ester to help re-suface the skin and help fade hyper-pigmentation and acne scarring, wrinkles and lines and generally give a brighter more youthful look to the skin.
I'm gonna go on record here and say that I love a good bit of retinol but it can be harsh and while it works wonders for the tone and texture of the skin it can also cause sensitivity, dryness and flaking which is why I don't use them very often.

Luna is potent! Far stronger than I anticipated it being, I noticed a difference after one use, my skin just looked clearer, more even toned, the texture felt smooth and there was no "side effects" so to speak.
I've now been using it for about 6 weeks (not every day, maybe 4 times a week) and my skin just keeps getting better and better!

This blue tinted oil is easily absorbed, smells pleasant and you only need a few drops to cover the entire face, yes it's expensive and yes your bank balance will be weeping when you hand over your cash but your skin will thank you for it!

What they say:
Let Luna's advanced retinol complex be your secret weapon! Trans-retinol ester helps reduce the depth of lines and wrinkles, while correcting damage caused by the sun, time, pollution, lifestyle and stress, helping to create firmer, clearer, more translucent skin. A visibly more youthful, healthier looking complexion with increased skin thickness and reduced pore size is created. Put on before bed and erase the past, starting afresh.

Essential oil complex high in azulene (Blue Tansy, German Chamomile, and Cape Chamomile) helps to lower the irritation associated with retinol., for calm, soothed skin. Cold pressed avocado, chia and concord grape seed oil sink in deeply, for quick absorption of actives while boosting radiance. Advanced trans-retinoid acid ester mixed with potent botanicals - the ultimate transformational, sleeping night oil.

Key Ingredients:

Trans-Retinol Ester
Belongs to a class of chemical compounds termed retinoids, it's the potent ester of all trans retinoic acid. Helps fight the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and loss of elasticity. Not appropriate for use during pregnancy.

Blue Tansy
Deep blue-green oil, high in azulene. Heals damaged skin, strong anti-inflammatory properties. Helpfull with eczema and dermatitis.

German Chamomile
Deep indigo oil, high in azulene. Wonderful for treating inflamed, irritated skin.

Avocado Seed Oil
Great for plumping fine lines. Rich in vitamins B, C, D, E and A. High sterolin content, wich as anti-inflammatory properties.

Chia Seed Oil
Richest botanical source of Omega 3. Powerful source of ALA, which helps minimise lines.

Cape Chamomile
Thought to help skin irritation, it is believed to encourage a healthy inflammatory response and support the skin's ability to regulate sebum.

Ingredients List:
Persea Gratissima (Extra Virgin, Cold Pressed Avocado) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Organic, Cold Pressed Concord Grape) Seed Oil, Rubus Fruticosus (Cold Pressed Blackberry) Seed Oil, Salvia Hispanica (Cold Pressed Chia) Oil, Dimethyl Isosorbide (and) Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Oil, Tanecetum Annuum (Blue Tansy) Oil, Anthemis Noblis (English Chamomile) Oil, Eriocephalus Punctulatus (Cape Chamomile) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Neroli) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Blood Orange) Oil, Canaga Odorata Flower (Ylang Ylang) Oil, Vetivera Zizanoides (Vetiver) Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil (and) Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, CI 61565 (Green 6) CI 60725 (Violet 2)

Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil retails at £85 and can be found on Space NK or Cult Beauty

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water

II've never really been a big fan of primers because they are generally silicone based and me and silicone do not get along very well so I was rather intrigued when this product was launched as it's in a spray format and is silicone, alcohol and oil free.

Smashbox also claim that this product is packed with electrolytes and caffeine to awaken and boost the skin, adding moisture and radiance and prolonging the wear of your base and that it can be used before foundation to prime, after foundation to set and throughout the day to re-fresh.

I've used this product pretty much every day since I got it and while it does give a radiance boost it does absolutely nothing to extend the wear of my foundation which is what a primer is meant to do.
It's not a bad product, it's just a bit pointless and doesn't work the way you expect it to.

I much prefer MAC Prep & Prime Fix + or the Urban Decay B6 Vitamin Infused Prep Spray as I actually see and feel a difference when using those two products and I can get hold of them easier (I don't have a Smashbox counter near me).

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water can be found on smashbox.co.uk or boots.co.uk and retail for £20

Foundation Friday: L'Oreal Infallable 24H Matte

So after seeing tons of blogger rave about this product I finally caved in and bought my own, surely it's a good as everyone says it is, right?
Well it's not, in fact I would go as far as to say it's possibly one of the worst foundations I've ever used!

I'll start with the positives: the packaging is spot on, the squeeze tube is sleek and travel friendly and it allows you to control how much product is coming out but that's where the positives end!

The colour selection is ridiculous (6 shades) I ended up with 20 sand which is slightly too dark but all the other shades where too light and too pink, ideally I would have to mix two shades to get a closer match.
It oxidizes more than any other foundation that I've ever tried and before you know it it looks like you've had a fights with a packet of Wotsits!

The texture of the product is very thick and while it buffs in quite well it dries quickly so you have to be fast, for the first 5 minutes it looks quite nice, matte but not powdery and then disaster begins.
I noticed that it started to "pool" around the pores on my nose and despite re-blending the area an hour later it had done it again.
Within 4 hours it had started to break down around the jawline and cheek area and a tiny little spot had made an appearance, 6 hours later I looked and felt oily and the foundation was a patchy mess to the point that someone I work with asked me "what the hell had I done with my makeup"!
Now this is a foundation that claims to stay matte and last for 24 hours, I think someone from marketing had drank one to many glasses of prosecco when they made that statement!
I also noticed that my blusher and bronzer had gone on patchy and had started to fade half way trough the day.

All I can say is, save your money there are better products out there and don't believe the hype on this one or you will be disappointed.

Sunday Riley Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment

I thought long and hard before I bought a bottle of Sunday Riley's Good Genes for two reasons, it's expensive and over-hyped which isn't always a good thing but eventually I caved in and I'm so glad I did, my skin as never looked better!

I'm used to using some pretty strong exfoliating "toners" and my skin (think Alpha H Liquid Gold, Cane & Austin Retexturising Treatment Pads) but this is something else entirely, it's like having the equivalent of a professional peel but in the comfort of your own home.
I see huge results with one application alone, my skin look fresh, glowing and well rested and just generally brighter and more even toned.

I normally use glycolic based products so I was a bit concerned how I would get along with lactic acid but I actually think I prefer it, yes there a mild tingling sensation but it goes away in second and I find that I don't get any of the flaking that I would normally get.

I honestly cannot praise this product enough, it is an investment, a bottle will last you ages as you only need a small amount each time and the results are amazing.

What they say:
A multi-tasking over-Achiever, Good Genes immediately brightens, plumps lines, exfoliates clarifies imperfections, evens out hyperpigmentation and acne scars, smooth texture and masively boosts radiance. Powerful, unneutralized, pharmaceutical grade lactic acid is proven to help build strong collagen and regenerate healthy skin, while Licorice Lemongrass, Arnica, Prickly Pear, Aloe and Bio-Fermented Yeats boost Vibrance.

Key Ingredients:

40% Lactic Acid
Reveals glow of healthy skin cells by encouraging exfoliation of dead skin cells. Helps reduce the appearance of acne scars and hyper-pigmentation. Plumps lines and wrinkles by theoretically promoting collagen growth in the deeper layers of the skin.

Lemongrass
Boosts circulation, which brings oxygen to the skin, increases vibrance and radiance.

Licorice
Natural skin brightener, anti-inflammatory.

Arnica
Boosts circulation, skin soothing, calms irritation.

Bio-Fermented Yeast
Believed to help rebuild stronger, healthier tissue.

Bio-Fermented Aloe
Has been used as an healing herb for more than 2000 years. Used traditionally to help clarify, soothe irritation and maintain healthy skin. Anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory characteristics.

Prickly Pear
Used by Native Americans as a topical healing agent, contains substantial levels of beta-carotene and vitamin C.

Wildcrafted Orchid
Thought to have a calming, soothing effect, helps hydrate the skin.

Ingredients List:
Botanical Complex [Opuntia Tuna Fruit (Prickly Pear) Extract, Agave Tequilina Leaf (Blue Agave) Extract, Cypripedium Pubescens (Lady's Slipper Orchid) Extract, Opuntia Tuna Fruit, Opuntia Vulgaris (Cactus) Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract & Saccharomyces Cerevisiae (Yeast) Extract], Lactic Acid Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Butylene Glycol, Squalene, Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone, PPG-12/SMDI Copolymer, Stearic Acid Cetearyl Alcohol and Ceteareth 20, Glyceryl Stearate and PEG-100 Stearate, Arnica Extract, PEG-75 Meadowsol, Glycyrrhza Glabra Extract, Lemongrass Extract, Triethanolamine, Xantham Gum, Phenoxyethanol, Steareth-20, DMDM Hydantoin.

Review: MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation

I've never really been a big fan of MAC foundations, over the years I've tried Studio Fix Fluid (drying and looks like you are wearing a mask), Studio Tech (great coverage but gave me cystic acne) and Studio Sculpt (looks nice but it clogged my pores and it would break down quite fast on the skin) so when I realised MAC had bought out a new foundation I can't say I was particularly excited.
I wasn't going to buy the full size without trying it first so I managed to get a sample, even if you wear MAC foundation already don't buy this assuming you will be the same shade you usually are, this stuff runs light and I mean light. I'm normally an NC20/NC25 depending on the time of year but with the Pro Longwear Nourishing Foundation I was matched to a NC30 and at the moment my skin is at it's fairest so bear that in mind if you thinking of buying it online.

The texture put me off straight from the get go, it's thick and reminds me off Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation which I do not get along with, I was tempted to wipe it off the back of my hand and throw the pot away but I didn't for the sake of the blog,  I tried it once and immediately fell in love with it enough that I went and bought a full sized tube!

Yes, the texture is extremely thick but it blends beautifully and while it is full coverage it's still looks natural, it dries down to a satin finish but if you wanted a more matte look you can add a powder and unlike most other high coverage foundations it does not look cakey.

What MAC as to say about it:
A tenacious waterproof formula that can be used as a foundation or concealer, wearing for an unprecedented 16 hours. Neither rain nor tears can budge this oil-free watertight product that actually repels moisture from the surface of the face. The formula blends seamlessly on the skin with medium to full weightless coverage and a natural satin finish.

Does it do everything MAC claim it to?
Kinda yes and kinda no?

Yes, it will work as a concealer but only for blemishes and discolouration on the face, I tried it under the eyes and it just did not work.
The wear time is good but not 16 hours worth, I found that by the 8 hour mark it had started to break down around my nose and chin (the rest of my face looked the same as when I first applied it) and began to look a little shiny, however this is still longer than any foundation I own so I'm still pleased with its lasting power.

Is it waterproof? Yes, it most certainly is, so much so that when I applied my setting spray over the top it refused to dry! It simply repelled the moisture and eventually I had to take a tissue and blot, oh and you can had transfer proof to the list of claims!

Another big plus point is that the tube is really compact and travel friendly, yes it's 25ml instead of the standard 30ml but you use so little of it that it shouldn't be an issue in terms of how long it lasts.

All in all I'm really impressed and have used it every day for the past week and not had any problems with it so far, in fact I would go as far as to say that it as very quickly made it into my Top 5 favourite foundations.

MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation is available in 16 shades and retails for £25.50

Zoeva Rose Golden Eyeshadow Palette: Review and Swatches

So while browsing the BeautyBay website I came across this Zoeva Rose Gold Eyeshadow Palette and as a lover of anything rose gold toned I popped it into my basket along with a couple of other products.
I absolutely adore my Zoeva brushes but I honestly wasn't really expecting to love their eyeshadows, for the price I thought that maybe the pigmentation was going to be poor or that they would be chalky or dusty but they are beautiful and worth every penny.

The palette comes with 10 shades, 3 of them matte the rest shimmers in gorgeous tones of rose gold, bronze, copper pink and purples. There isn't a single colour I wouldn't wear, they all harmonise together really well, the textures are buttery soft and they blend easily with no fallout!!!
This palette blows Urban Decay's Naked 3 out of the water simply for the fact that it's more wearable, easier to use and is a lot more compact and easier to travel with.

Texture wise the shimmers are highly pigmented and look almost metallic when applied but it's the matte's that are the star of the show. When I first swatched them my reaction was "well these are dusty" and I thought they where going to apply chalky and be hard to blend but they are amazing! They blend effortlessly and the pigmentation is second to none.

Lets get onto the swatches with descriptions:

Luster - matte creamy latte
Reflective Elegance - nude champagne
Copper Is King - burnished copper
Shining Bright - pinky taupe
Rusty Petals - warm chocolate brown

Foil - golden nude
Just A Rose - peachy pink shimmer
Golden Rule - mid toned antiqued gold
Harmony - smokey mauve
Wonder Full - deep aubergine

The Zoeva Rose Golden can be found on the Zoeva website or BeautyBay and retails for £15

The "Kylie Jenner" Lip Tutorial

For the past two weeks every time I've logged onto social media, I've been subjected to videos of people doing this ridiculous "Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge" which essentially consists of a person filming themselves sucking on a shot glass or small jar and swelling their lips to ridiculous proportions.

WTF is going on and why would you do that to yourselves?

Not only is this dangerous (some people have had the glass shatter or the blood vessels in the lips explode) but it looks so stupid and nothing like Kylie Jenner's lips, even hers are not that big.

If you really want lips like Kylie Jenner doing this challenge isn't going to get you get them, she very clearly as lip fillers which she then further accentuates with the use of lip liner and lipstick.
I do not agree with a 17 year old having fillers injected in her lips and no person of that age should want or need to do so so I'm going to show you how to achieve a similar pouty look with just the use of makeup.

Products used: Gerard Cosmetics 1995 Lipstick, GOSH Velvet Touch Lipliner in Nougat Crisp, Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil in Naked

Step 1: Cover your entire lip area with concealer

Step 2: Use a light flesh toned lip liner to line just outside of your natural lip line and fill the whole lip area in with the same shade.

Step 3: Use a darker, more brown toned lip liner to shade the very outer edges of your mouth.

Step 4: Fill in with a brown matte lipstick.

Ta da your done and not a needle or cup in sight!

Foundation Friday: Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua

Of all the foundations that I own this is the one that as been in my collection the longest and been re-purchased the most, I think I've been trough 4-5 bottles of the stuff since it first launched.

(shade B30)
What Chanel say:
A new-generation texture. An unprecedented sensory experience. A unique makeup result. Rapid and easy application. VITALUMIÈRE AQUA. Apply your makeup without thinking about it.

Its soft and evanescent ultra-fine fluid texture is a real surprise: although exceptionally delicate and light, it offers an incomparable “second-skin” perfecting result. The complexion appears amazingly even, fresh and energised. The skin glows with seemingly nude beauty. As if lit from within. Bathed in light…

Its formula, enriched with a UVB sun filter and mineral sunscreen, protects the skin from damaging sun rays (SPF 15). Its crystalline fragrance accentuates the sensation of freshness and pleasure on application.

It's one of those foundations that looks like a "second skin" you really cannot tell you are wearing any product, this is in part to the fact that it contains HD pigments but also because the coverage is light and fresh. It's the foundation I reach for on days where I want my skin to look like skin but better, it's not a base I would wear if I was going out or if I wanted something long lasting.
I tend to use a buffing brush to apply this product as it gives an airbrushed finish and you get a little bit more coverage this way.

(me wearing shade B30)

I personally think this is best suited to normal/dry or combination skin types, if you're too oily this foundation will start to break down quickly and look shiny and this is the type of foundation that looks best without setting it with powder.
If you are more oily the Perfection Lumiere Velvet would be a better fit.

This foundation comes in 7 shades and  retail for £33
