Baking with NYX Color Correcting Powder in Banana

You will have noticed the latest craze sweeping the beauty community is baking, where you take your loose setting powder and apply a thick layer over your under eye concealer or above our contour, let it set for 5-10 minutes to warm up with your body heat and then brush away the excess leaving you looking flawless.
When I initially heard of this technique I wasn't convinced, how can it be any different from setting your concealer the normal way?
Well it does make a huge difference and I now wouldn't set my under eye any other way, it leaves the eye area looking airbrushed and I get no creasing throughout the day, however you have to have the right powder.

I initially tried with transclucent loose powder and it did nothing, mineral foundation powder on the other hand looked cakey, so I did my research and found that a yellow toned powder seemed to work best.
A trip to Selfridges London and £8 later and this NYX Color Correcting Powder was mine and it works a charm.
The texture is perfect, smooth, extremely finely milled and doesn't look heavy but at the same time adds  just enough coverage while the yellow undertone manages to cancel out any under eye darkness and it's talc free which is brilliant as talc breaks me out.

You can now get NYX in Selfridges Oxford Street (it's a pop up boutique and only there till January) or the Feelunique website.

A Drugstore Foundation Dupe: Bourjois Air Mat & Makeup Forever Mat Velvet Plus!

Hi guys, you all know how much I love the Makeup Forever Mat Velvet + and I've been using it pretty much non-stop since I got it however the new Bourjois Air Mat foundation caught my eye the other day and while it was on offer in Boots I picked up a bottle to try.
I wasn't really expecting much from it but this is pretty much the drugstore version of Makeup Forever Mat Velvet Plus, they are virtually identical in texture and finish on the skin!

(top: MUFE, bottom: Bourjois)

They both have that lightweight, easy to blend texture but are full coverage and set to a natural matte finish which doesn't look flat or dull.
The Bourjois Air Mat might be just a fraction more matte than the Makeup Forever Mat Velvet and has a little bit more of a powdered finish but I love it just as much and it's £10 which is an absolute bargain for such a good product.

The only downside is the colour selection, I picked up 02 Vanilla which is perfect for me but if you are any darker than a MAC NC35 then you might not find a match.

You can pick Bourjois Air Mat up from Boots where it's currently on offer 2 for £14!

How to look after your red hair!

I've been every hair colour under the sun, blonde, brunette, red and every shade in beetween, it's strange because naturally I'm a dirty blonde, but feel the most like myself when my hair is red. I first went red about 5 years ago and while I absolutely loved it the maintenance of it quickly ensured that I was back to brunette in no time.
Anyone who's gone red before will know the struggle of keeping it looking vibrant, the constant dying and pink shower/neck/pillow/clothes can become a bit of a pain in the ass but it's something you have to suffer for the sake of such bright locks. Red is also the fastest colour to fade but funnily enough the hardest to completely remove.

(Manic Panic Vampire Red)

(Special FX Blood Red)

I'm going to share with you a few tips to help keep your fiery mane vibrant and glossy.

1. Think of red hair as a long term commitment!
Don't think that you can be blonde one minute, red the next and back again in less than four weeks, you have to be in it for the long run!
I'm saying this because red is the quickest to fade but an absolute pain in the ass to completely remove especially is your hair was light or very porous to begin with. If you're not sure that you will like or suit red hair try a wig on first.

2. Be prepared for the constant upkeep!
If you are looking at getting a deep ruby red shade then you will be re-dying your hair every 2-3 weeks, I'f you thought that blonde hair was high maintenance you where wrong, platinum haired girlies ain't got shit on us redheads, lol.
Obviously you don't want to be damaging your hair by dying it so frequently so here is where the vegetable dyes come into play.
Vegetable dyes will condition hair and leave it glossy and smooth with no damage whatsoever. You do not need peroxide with these babies so you can use then as often as you like without worry, you can even had a bit to your hair mask and use it once a week as a colour re-fresher.
When your roots start coming trough you will need a proper dye (colour and developer) to lift and shade the natural hair growth, in this case I would use a semi-permanent dye unless your hair is really dark and need more levels of lift.

3. Use a sulphate free shampoo and wash in cool water.
Sulphate's strip your colour (and they dry out your hair) so invest in a shampoo without it to preserve your chosen shade. Also washing your hair in hot water will fade the colour faster so wash you hair in the coldest water you can handle!

4. Try to wash your hair less often.
I know some people love to wash their hair daily (which isn't good on any hair type as it strips your scalp of it's natural oils) but try not to as this will fade colour even faster.
Dry shampoo is your best friend people!

5. Be prepared for everything to turn pink!
I mean absolutely everything, you shower, your neck, your pillow, your clothes, your hands, your WHITE pet dog and god forbid it should rain because you will look like a scene from Carrie!

Foundation Friday: Makeup Forever Mat Velvet +

Hi guys, today I'm gonna talk to you about my new "holy grail" new favourite foundation of all time!

As anyone of you with oily, breakout prone skin will know it can be a struggle to find a base that gives flawless, natural looking coverage that lasts all day and doesn't clog skin.
Usually foundation geared for this skin type can look quite heavy and dry and I'm personally not a fan of anything that looks too matte, I might be shiny naturally but I also don't want to look like I have a cake face!

I decided to give Mat Velvet a try on a whim not really thinking much of it, but I can honestly say that if you where to steal all my other foundations I would be happy using just this one!

Despite it being a matte foundation I would say it looks more like a satin on my skin, it looks perfect and flawless but still managing somehow to look like real skin, but better.
I found that I needed the tiniest amount to cover my whole face and while it does provide a medium/full coverage it can definitely be sheered out.
I also love the bottle it comes in, I know glass bottles look nicer but they are bulky and if you are clumsy and have "butter fingers" like myself you'll be grateful for the plastic packaging as it won't smash everywhere should you drop it on the floor. It's also great for travel.

I got shade 40 which is working for me at the minute as I still have the remnants of a tan, however there is no lighter shade than this which suits me as 30 is too pink an everything else is too white so that might be a bit of a problem going into the colder months.

What they say:
Mat Velvet + evens and matifies the skin tone. It's amino acid coated pigments provide both stability and durability to the make-up. The Formula, rich in corn starch complex, covers imperfections, neutralizes the shiny areas and leaves a velvet finish. It's oil free texture leaves a non greasy and comfortable finish.
Dermatologist tested. Sensitive skin tested. Non Comedogenic.

You can find Makeup Forever Mat Velvet + in Debenhams and it retail for £29

Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask

Hi guys, it's no secret that I'm a sucker for a good face peel, I love a bit of glycolic acid or an AHA here and there in the quest for super smooth skin and have even had the odd one or two done professionally at a salon.
I had read a few reviews raving about this product but the cost stopped me from purchasing a tub, £40 is hella expensive for a face mask, I would rather spend that kinda money on a moisturiser but after seeing Vivianna Does Makeup review I finally caved in and bought one.

I will say one thing, this shit is powerful! It's the closest you'll get to a professional grade glycolic peel that you can do yourself at home.
The instructions tell you to apply a thin layer to skin and massage in circular movements to activate the micro-polishing aluminium oxide powder. You then leave the mask on for up to 10 minutes and let the AHA's  and pumpkin enzymes work their magic.

My skin is very used to "acids" and I wouldn't say I was particularly sensitive but I could feel this treatment working, it tingles like a bitch and at one point I was hopping up and down in my bathroom muttering obscenities under my breath but in the name of research I resisted the urge to remove it early.
Upon rinsing my face I looked into the mirror and realised that I looked like I had a bad case of sunburn, luckily once the initial redness had subsided my skin definitely looked a lot brighter, more even and felt smoother.
The morning after I used this my makeup when on so nicely and my skin looked super radiant and glowy, so despite being a bit like torture while it's on my face the results are definitely worth it!

Ingredients: Water/Aqua/Eau, Cucurbita Pepo (pumpkin), Aluminium Oxide, Glycerin, Triethanolamine, Lactobacillus/Pumpkin Ferment Extract, Ascorbic Acid, Tocopherol, Retinyl Palmitate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Edta Edetate Discodium Dihydrate Usp, Methyl Eugenol, Carbomer, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzonate, Chlorphenesin, Phenoxyethanol.

Foundation Friday: Cover FX Natural Finish Oil-Free Foundation

I decided to give Cover FX a go because my skin as been going crazy lately and this product is free of all nasties and is meant to be kind to your skin while providing adjustable, light to full coverage so I thought I might as well give it a try.
Having no Cover FX counter nearby I had to match myself based on swatches online, I ended up going for shade G30 and it matches my skin perfectly, however this is where the love ends! I do not know what I'm doing wrong here but I just cant get it to work for me!

Lets see what the company says!

The Claims:
Clinically tested. Paraben, fragrance, gluten, mineral oil and talc free. Vegan. A healthy, oil free foundation with flexible, sheer to full coverage. Containing powerful vitamins and anti-oxidants, this formula helps hydrate, reduces the look of redness and leaves a beautiful natural finish.

I've tried it 4-5 times now and each time I've tried applying it a different way, with a different brush, a different primer and still no luck!
For some strange reason it makes my skin look rough and bumpy, it accentuates any dry patches and gives me zero coverage. If that's not bad enough the lasting power is like water, I will apply this and two hours later my whole face will be a shiny mess and the product will have disappeared of my nose and chin completely, I set the product with powder it makes no difference!

I wanted to love this product so badly but it just doesn't work for me.

Tag: 7 Deadly Sins Of Beauty!

Hi guys, another tag post! I actually really like doing tag posts and this one used to be popular on Youtube back in the day. As usual I'm late to the party but as they say better late than never, lol.

1. GREED - What is your most inexpensive beauty item? What is your most expensive?
The most inexpensive item I own as to be my Olay Complete daily mosturiser, I actually can't believe how good it is and it's often on offer for less than £3!

My most expensive is gonna have to be Chantecaille Just Skin, I actually can't believe that I paid £58 for a tinted moisturiser. I mean it's beautiful but so expensive that you almost cry when you hand the money over!

2. WRATH - What beauty products do you have a love/hate relationship with? What product as been the hardest to get?
I love the look of liquid liner but cannot be bothered to apply it. Also loose pigments, so pretty but so messy to apply.

Too Faced Hangover Face Primer, for some strange reason we don't get this in the UK so you have no option other than to buy it from Sephora and have it shipped over, it's annoying not gonna lie!

3. GLUTTONY - What are your most delicious beauty products?
My Tom Ford Noir Pour Femme perfume smells good enough to eat! I love it so much that I actually went and bought the matching lotion which I never do!

4. SLOTH - What beauty product do you neglect due to laziness?
It's gonna be eye cream! I have them and I use them occasionally but most of the time I'll just slap my face moisturiser everywhere for quickness. Oh and body lotion/cream, I hate the process of moisturising my body, it's so boring!

5. PRIDE - What beauty product gives you the most self confidence?
It's got to be foundation. While I have no problem going out with a bare face I just feel more confident if I have on a bit of base to even out my skin tone. A close second would have to be mascara because I have fair lashes so I look a bit strange without it!

6. LUST - What attributes do you find most attractive in the opposite sex?

Definitely a sense of humour without a doubt. Then I would have to say someone who's not afraid to speak their mind, honesty and kindness but I guess that goes without saying. If we are talking physical attributes than just take a look at Theo James for reference.

7. ENVY - What items would you most like to receive as a gift?
A nice new perfume, having said that the person buying it would have to know me quite well as I'm quite picky when it comes to scents. Or maybe a nice neutral eyeshadow palette, you can't go wrong with that.

So guys, there you have it! I tag all of you so put your responses in the comment box below and don't forget to subscribe!

Sephora Haul!!!

The I remember back in the day (lol, okay it wasn't that far back) when we used to have Sephora in the UK. For some bizarre reason it didn't take off and soon enough they shut them all down and left us beauty junkies crying into our loose powder.
Luckily Sephora US now ship to the UK which is great because we can finally get our hands on the hard to  get brands that we cannot get over here!

I placed an order purely because I needed (wanted) some Kat Von D Liquid Lipsticks in my life and somehow on the way to the checkout a few other items might have made it into my basket.

Becca Backlight Priming Filter $38
I got this because Jaclyn Hill raves about this stuff and she's not wrong, it's bloody amazing!
It gives skin this intense luminosity without looking like Tinker Bell just sneezed in your face and it actually does keep my makeup on for longer.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick $20
The reason I placed the order in the first place and I'm now so glad I did, these are the most pigmented and comfortable liquid lipstick I've tried so far.
Unlike most liquid lipsticks these dry to a true matte finish and feel completely weightless on the lips, you can also layer the product without it balling up or getting dry.
Lolita is possibly going to become my all time favourite autumn lip shade!

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day 5-1 Styling Treatment $15
I've been waiting ages for this product to hit our shores and it still hasn't so I picked up the baby bottle while I had a chance.
I've not tried this yet but essentially it's and hair cream that's meant to provide you with volume, smoothness, conditioning, strength and polish all in one, we shall see.

TAG: 15 Weird Questions!

Another day, another tag post!

1. What is a nickname only your family calls you?
I can't say I have a nickname really, sometimes my sister will affectionally call me "bitch" as a joke.

2.What's a weird habit of yours?
I don't actually think I have one.

3.Do you have any weird phobias?
I really don't like it when people leave loose hair in the sink, it completely grosses me out!

4. What's a song you secretly LOVE to belt out when you're alone?
At the minute it would have to be Rita Ora's Body On Me except for I sing it but not in secret, lol.

5. What's one of your biggest pet peeves?
I have to narrow it down to one? Okay, it's gonna have to be when people ask you a question then ask you another question BEFORE you've finished answering the first! Or when people ask you for directions and then ask you "are you sure?" they both infuriate me!!!

6. What's one of your nervous habits?
I pick at my cuticles till I make them sore or I'll pace the room.

7.What side of the bed do you sleep on?
I have a single bed so I don't have a side to sleep on!

8. What was your first stuffed animal & what was it's name?
A brown bear called Bear, lol

9.What drink do you ALWAYS order at Starbucks?
A tall, skinny, one shot cappuccino.

10. What's the beauty rule you preach...but never ACTUALLY practice?
Using SPF every single day, my foundation might have one in it but I very rarely use a dedicated SPF unless I'm abroad.

11. Which way do you face in the shower?
I don't face either way because I have a detachable shower head.

12. Do you have any weird body skills?
I can bend my arms inwards so that my shoulder blades stick out, not sure if it's weird but it freaks people out when I do it!

13.  What's your favourite comfort food/food thats bad but you love to eat it anyways?
Comfort food would have to be pasta, bad food crisps, I could eat one bag after the other.

14. What's a phrase or exclamation you always say?
I think my most used one is "Are you kidding me?"

15. Time to sleep, what are you ACTUALLY wearing?
A loose t-shirt or a cute pair of short pajamas.

Please feel free to join in the fun and post your own responses in the comment section.

Lee Stafford Coco Loco Coconut Spritz and Blow & Go

I've never been a massive fan of Lee Stafford's range of haircare, the bright pink packaging alway catches my eye but I find the products don't suit my hair type and I'm always left feeling underwhelmed.
However as I'm walking trough Boots the other day I spot a small stand featuring this new Coco Loco range and being a massive fan of anything with coconut in it I stopped and picked up a couple of the products.

They where on two for £10 so I took advantage of the offer and picked up the leave-in conditioner and the blow dry balm and I'm so glad I did because these two little beauties are AMAZING!!!

Since having my keratin treatment done my hair as been smoother but at the same time it gets greasy way faster than it did before so I'm washing my hair a lot more often which strip out both my keratin and colour faster and my usual products are too heavy and leave my hair looking flat and feeling dirty.
Using those two products together give the perfect amount of moisture, smoothness and heat protection while keeping my hair feeling light and clean and as a bonus they smell yummy!

Coco Loco Coconut Spritz
This leave-in conditioner is meant to detangle, refresh and revitalise hair leaving it feeling silky soft and shiny, it's meant to perform like an oil but in a milky spray format and it really delivers.
I spray about 6-8 pumps all over my hair and then comb it trough and I immediately feel a difference in the softness of my hair, the best part is it doesn't feel heavy or sticky and will not weigh down fine hair.
I also love the fact that it sprays in a soft, fine mist instead of a water jet!

Coco Loco Blow & Go
A cleaver smoothing cream improves shine, adds softness, conditions, smooths, strengthens, noiurishes, improves combability, repair damaged hair, protects against humidity and colour fade and acts as an heat protectant.
The light lotion texture doesn't feel sticky or greasy and I felt my hair look more polished and was easier to work with, again it didn't weigh my hair down and normally a cream will.

You can find the Lee Stafford Coco Loco range in Boots and at the moment you can pick up 2 products for £10.

Foundation Friday: Too Faced Born This Way & Hangover Primer

Hi guys, today's Foundation Friday is a little bit different, I was originally going to not talk about the primer however because I love it so much and have been using it mainly with the Born This Way foundation I felt I deserved a mention.

Hangover Rx Replenishing Face Primer is infused with coconut water, probiotics and skin loving ingredient to help replenish skin, boost radiance and extend the wear of you foundation making it look fresher for longer.

I actually really love this primer and sadly we don't sell it in the UK which means a cheeky Sephora haul now and again.
One of the big selling points for me is that it's silicone free and feels just like a light lotion, it doesn't feel heavy or sticky and my skin feels like it can still breathe and as a bonus I don't break out from it.
I do find my foundation goes on so much smoother and more evenly when I use this and my skin seem to glow without looking a shiny mess.

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation is a medium to full natural finish foundation that is undetectable on the skin. Infused with Coconut Water to replenish skin moisture levels, Alpine Rose to brighten skins appearance and promote elasticity and Hyaluronic Acid for a smoother more youthful look.

This foundation is amazing! It literally is "your skin but better" but it's got good coverage which is so hard to find in a foundation which is meant to give a natural finish.
The texture is on the thicker side but it blends in perfectly with either a buffer or stippling brush and looks and feels like a second skin.
I will say be careful what powder you use to set this foundation because anything too heavy will ruin the finish so you are better off using a translucent powder or skipping it all together.
I matched myself to the shade Light Beige and it's the best colour match out of all the foundations I own and I own a lot.
One slight negative is that it will transfer when you touch your skin which can be annoying but it's such a beautiful product that I'm willing to look past that.

Have you tried this duo? What did you think of it?
