Foundation Friday: EX1 Cosmetics Invisiwear Liquid Foundation

As a naturally ghostly white Italian girl I can understand the struggle of finding a good foundation for my skin tone. Being pale means most visits to a beauty counter end up with me being colour matched to a lovely undertone of pink when I'm actually very yellow which usually means me having to choose my own foundation shade.

This is where EX1 Cosmetics steps in because every product they do is catered for mediterranean or asian skin tone which naturally pull very yellow or olive.
I come across their foundation some time last year and instantly loved it and have since tried a few of their other products.
Invisiwear is a lightweight, light diffusing foundation that is oil and fragrance free and gives a natural, undetectable "second skin" finish and I would have to say that those claims are all true.

shades 100, 200 & 300 with flash

shades 100, 200 & 300 in natural day

Shade Selection
Not the best but at least they do have a light shade to suit us fair skin people. Out of the five shades I picked up three because at the time I'd been on holiday and my skin tone was constantly changing.
Because of the limited colour selection you might need to pick up a couple and mix them but they are affordable enough to do so.

Packaging
Very pretty and surprisingly high end looking! I'm a sucker for anything rose gold so this was right up my alley.
The pump isn't the best because occasionally it can be a bit stiff to use but I'm prepared to overlook that.
I also love how as you use the product the mechanism in the bottle pushes the product upwards so you can see exactly how much product you have left.

Coverage & Finish
It as a thick gel/cream texture which I really enjoy and this is a solid full coverage which can be sheered out either by applying less or mixing it with moisturiser.
For such high coverage it looks surprisingly natural on the skin and dries down to a satin finish.
Another good point is it doesn't catch on any dry patches or accentuate un-even texture on my skin so it gets an A+ for that!

Application
This foundation works well with pretty much every method of application, buffer brush great, stippling brush excellent, but applying with a beauty blender makes it look seamless and gives it a little bit of an added glow.

Longevity
Good enough to rival Estee Lauder Double Wear, in fact probably a little bit better! I can apply this in the morning and it will look exactly the same 12-14 hours later when I go to remove it, with NO touch ups!

It isn't as readily available as other brand especially if you live outside of the UK but both lookfantastic and beautyexpert carry the range and usually have 10% off and FREE shipping!

Beauty Myths Busted!

As a Makeup Artis and Beauty Blogger I get to hear and read a lot of information that is just simply incorrect which then leaves me wondering where did it come from in the first place.
Today I'll be sharing some of the most common beauty myths that I've come across in the years of me being in the beauty industry and why they aren't true.

1. Storing nail polish in the fridge will prolong it's shelf life!
No it wont!  But what it will do is create some nice little droplets of condensation inside of the bottle which will then mix with you polish and create a nice gloopy mess. Store them somewhere dark and cool (shoe box in the bottom of your wardrobe maybe) and they should last you years.

2. Shaving will make the hair grow back thicker and darker!
Shaving cuts the hair off at a blunt angle so when it does grow trough if feels a lot thicker and coarser than before. Waxing on the other hand pulls the hair out right from the root and it grows back with a tapered edge making it feel softer. Waxing also can weaken and damage the hair follicle making hair growth a lot sparser but your not gonna turn into a Yeti by using a razor on your legs.

3. Pulling out a grey hair will make two grow in it's place!
If that really was the case there would be no bald men and the quest for thick hair would be over! Pulling out a grey hair will do nothing except cause you initial pain and as it grows back it might feel coarser than it did before, so don't do it!

4. If I stop washing my hair it will start to clean itself!
Maybe if you are Harry Potter but stop washing your hair and chances are you will start wondering why people are keeping you at arms length.
Hair does not "self clean" but there comes a point where it will stop getting any greasier therefore giving the illusion of cleaning itself.

5. Foundation gives you spots!
It will if you are not removing it properly in the evening or God forbid sleeping in it! Foundation itself does not clog pores or cause breakouts unless you are allergic to one of the ingredients but keep on using face wipes and your skin wont be thanking you for it.

6. Facial oil will make oily skin oilier!
Not if you are using the right oil for your skin type the right product can actually help balance your skin and make it less oily.
Same goes for oil based cleansers, get the right one and your skin will be thanking you for it!

7. Premium brands work more effectively than drugstore!
Obviously it's more expensive so it's gotta work better, right? Very wrong! The ingredients used make a product better not the price tag so always read the label.

8. Natural products are better for you than man made chemicals!
Not always right, some people are sensitive to essential oils so a all natural product would be off the cards. Not all chemicals (water is a chemical, lets not forget) are bad so use whatever products suits your skin best regardless of weather it's ingredients are from a plant or out the lab.

9. Using and astringent toner closes the pores!
There is no product in the world that can close your pores, I repeat nothing on this earth!
Yes, you can get products that will refine the texture, smooth pores and clean them out making them look smaller but it's a visual illusion. The size of your pores is what it is and sadly there's no way of completely getting rid of them.

10. Drinking water will keep you skin hydrated!
Sorry but it's not true! You can drink all the water in the world and if your skin type is dry chances are it will still be dry because what your skin is lacking is oil. This does not apply to a dehydrated skin (dehydrated skin is a temporary skin condition not a type) which is indeed a lack of water and/or wrong products being used.
Drinking lots of water will however keep your skin clear so don't stop chugging that H2O.

Urban Decay Gwen Stefani - Review & Swatches

Today I'm going to be sharing with you my thoughts and swatches of the new Gwen Stefani collaboration with Urban Decay.
It all started with the eyeshadow palette and now we have a whole range of other products to go alongside it including a blush palette, brow kit, lip liners and lipsticks.
I absolutely love the whole collection and if I could afford it I would own the whole collection just purely for collectors purposes if anything!

Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette £40
The palette that started it all and the only palette that I'll be using for the foreseeable future!
This as the perfect selection of neutrals with the odd pop of colour thrown in for good measure and I think would appeal to most people, what's not to love?
If you are familiar with Urban Decay eyeshadows you will know how buttery soft and easy to blend they are and these are no exception, the matte shades aren't in the slightest bit chalky and the shimmery shades have this gorgeous soft glow finish to them without being glittery.

Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Blush Palette £35
I begged my sister to get me this as an early birthday present as I can see this selling out so fast, this palette is a thing of beauty!
The packaging is the same design as the eyeshadow palette except it's white and gold instead of black and gold, it just looks so sleek and stylish.
There a nice selection of shades and textures, you get 4 blushers, a bronzer and an highlighter so this is perfect for travel because you have everything you would ever need.
The texture of these is slightly different to the regular Afterglow line of blushers, they feel far creamier and are very pigmented so a little goes a long way.

Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Brow Box £19.50
I don't understand why they only released this in one shade, okay I do understand why because Gwen Stefani is blonde but I still don't get it, what about us with dark hair?
If they had done this in a different shade I would have bought it in an instant, I know they have the regular line of Brow Box but I want it in this packaging!
The powders are so pigmented and the wax doesn't feel too sticky but the best part of this is it comes with two little applicator brushes and a mini pair of tweezers that actually function just as well as my full size pair.

Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Lipsticks £16

I think these have to win the "best looking lipstick of 2016" award, is that a little early in the year to be saying that?
The packaging is beautiful and feels expensive and every single one of the shades including the sheer formulation apply like a dream.
My favourite one is 714 which is a Mega Matte and the most beautiful red lipstick I own, the pigmentation is amazing, lasting power is out of this world and I feel so glamorous when I wear this.

(714, Wonderland, Rock Steady, Spiderweb, Firebird)

Urban Decay Gwen Stefani 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil £14
I love Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide on Lip Pencils and they are amongst some of my favourite lip liners of all time but none of the shades in this collection caught my eye.
Don't get wrong they are beautiful and match the corresponding lipsticks but the shades are not that unique to me and I have a lot of similar liners from other brands.

The whole Gwen Stefani collection is limited edition and wont be around for long, get yours on Urban Decay official site or Debenhams.

Lime Crime Unicorn Lipstick

After purchasing my Lime Crime Velvetines and loving them so much I decided that I wanted to try their original lipsticks and lucky for me they where on sale for less than half price.
Now the reason why they where on sale is because Lime Crime are discontinuing their line of Unicorn Lipstick which is a bloody shame because I love them! Possibly even more than the Velvetines!

If you like MAC lipsticks you will love these because essentially they are the same but better if that makes sense.
They have the same vanilla frosting scent that MAc lipsticks are famous for and are closest in texture to an Amplified finish but with a creamier consistency, better coverage and longer staying power.

I found these lasted a good 4-6 with out the need to reapply, they didn't bleed (I did use a lipliner though) and they didn't dry my lips out like MAC Amplified lipsticks do so they get a huge double thumbs up from me.

Packaging wise I initially thought they where tacky and I wasn't a fan but was surprised that my opinion change as soon as I saw them in person.
The bright purple tube looks a lot less garish in real life and it as a nice weight to it and it makes them a lot easier to spot amongst your collection if you have a lot of lipsticks like I do.
The box is also really cute and I had to force myself to put them in the bin because I was contemplating keeping them but then realised that's absolutely crazy.

The swatches below are all done with 1-2 swipes of product so you can see how pigmented and vibrant they are.

Lets get onto the product pictures:

Coquette
This is such a nice nude beige in the tube but a little too light for my complexion, it makes me look like a corpse. I can make it work but I have to use a much darker liner all over the lip as a base or mix it with another colour to make it more wearable.

Babette
This is one of the most popular Lime Crime lipstick and I can totally see why. It's the most perfect peachy pink shade and looks absolutely amazing on light to medium complexions, paired with a bronzed smokey eye and peachy cheek. I love it and I'm so glad I got it!

Eraser
This was a collaboration with Urban Outfitters and is very similar to Babette except it's slightly darker and leans more on the pink side. I like it but prefer Babette and I don't think you need both.

Geranium
This is so bright I actually had an hard time getting a photo of it as it was making my camera go crazy. This is that perfect summer coral that looks amazing with a tan and I can't wait for the warmer months so I can wear this.

Centrifuchsia

Think Barbie pink on crack and you have Centrifuchsia! Similar to MAC Girl About Town but much better in my opinion as it goes on more opaque and as a better texture.
I'm not a big pink fan but I do really like this one.

Retrofuturist
A pretty standard blue based red almost neon with a super creamy finish, not very unique as I have a lot of reds but still very pretty.

Poisonberry
The one shade that I didn't think I would like all that much but I absolutely love it! It looks extremely purple in the tube but goes on far sheerer on the lips and as a beautiful magenta shimmer running trough it. One of my favourites!

The Lime Crime website still as a small selection of shades in stock and they are still on sale so I would highly recommend that if you want to try these you do it fast before they all sell out!

By Terry Baume De Rose Parure Lip Balm

I have to apologise in advance for blogging about this so late as it's limited edition and came out at Christmas but you can still find these on a couple of websites and it's too pretty not to talk about.

If you are familiar with the By Terry Baume The Rose in the pot form you will know how good it is at sorting out dry, chapped lips in a couple of application and I've gone trough a good few pots over the years but I've never tried the gloss version.
They released this special edition 24K Gold version at Christmas and I couldn't resist picking one up as it looked so darn pretty and it was surprisingly inexpensive for By Terry.

This is just as good as the solid version, in fact I actually prefer it because it's easier and more hygienic to apply and moisturises just as well as the Baume De Rose in the pot.
The shimmer is subtle and just adds a little bit of volume to the lips but I can feel it slightly but not enough to make it un-comfortable.

By Terry Baume De Rose Parure is still available on the Very website and Net A Porter for £20

All Time Favourite MAC Lipsticks! Pictures & Swatches!

I was going trough my lipstick collection the other day and realised that despite owning quite a few MAC lipsticks I rarely talk about them on here, not because I don't like them, I probably use my MAC lipstick more than any of the other lipsticks I own.
I guess because I use them so often and they aren't NEW I forget to mention them which is a shame because MAC makes some of my fave shades and I'm going to share them with you now!

These are in no particular order:

Modesty - Cremesheen

This is a nice warm, nude that doesn't look too light and corpse like, it's nice as an every day lipstick when you want a quick slick of colour.
The Cremesheen formula isn't my favourite as it tends to dry my lips out but I'll make an exception for this shade.

Faux - Satin
This is actually fairly similar to Modesty in colour, maybe just an hair darker but with a better formula. The Satin finish gives a more opaque finish and isn't as shiny which I prefer.

Kinda Sexy - Matte
Can you tell how much I love this one by how much I've used? This a muted peach with just the tiniest hint of pink. It looks amazing in the summer with tanned skin and a bronzy eye and it's a matte texture which is my favourite finish.

Brave - Satin
This is a mid toned rose shade that leans slightly towards the cool side, it at a tiny bit of shimmer in the tube but it doesn't show on the lips.
Again a nice every day, easy to wear shade.

Mehr - Matte
My favourite MAC lipstick of all time and one of my top 10 lipsticks that I own!
It's a blue based mid pink with a matte finish, you need it, your friends need it, your dog needs it, it's that amazing!

Whirl - Matte
This is your standard "Kylie Jenner" lip shade and what I wished Velvet Teddy would look like on me.
It's a mid toned warm brown and can look horrendous on some complexions so trying before you buy is a must with this one.

Antique Velvet - Matte
This is a new addition to my collection and boy did I have an hard time getting hold of it, it's sold out EVERYWHERE!!!
This is a deep, warm chocolate brown that as a slightly red undertone, it can be tricky to pull off so this is another one that worth trying on before you splurge.

D For Danger - Matte

This should be a must in everyones collection! It's a red with a berry undertone and looks amazing on everyone. I love wearing this when the weather is cold, it just screams winter.

Rebel - Satin
I've had this one for the longest time that sometimes I forget about it then when I wear it again I remember why I love it so much. Hands down the best berry lipstick money can buy!

Which are your favourite MAC lipsticks? Leave me a comment down below and let me know if I'm missing any essentials.

Foundation Friday: Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte HydratingFoundation

When I first saw this foundation I was intrigued by the claims of it being both matte and hydrating, that's something you simply don't see very often.
Since my skin has gotten drier over the past few month I can no longer wear the kind of foundations that I like. I'm not a big fan of overly dewy foundations because they always end up looking very greasy on me but at the same time I cannot wear anything thats too matte because it accentuates any dryness on my skin and always looks too heavy.
So I picked this up with high hopes and it doesn't disappoint!
Despite my skin being super dehydrated at the minute it looks beautiful on and if I was blind testing this I would have guessed it was high end and not drugstore.
It's all I've worn since I got it and I would go as far as saying that this could possibly replace my NARS Sheer Glow.

Shade Selection
My major issue here is the colour selection, there's 6 shades to choose from and while there is a really pale shade thrown in the mix the darkest it goes is a medium tan shade so this will suit a very limited audience.
I'm Casper The Ghost white at the minute so the lightest shade 01 Natural is a dead on match however there's no match to my tanned shade because they either run to pink or too orange.
The US got 12 shades we got 6, I will never understand why companies do this! I'm aware we live in the UK and we see the sun for a total of a week a year if we are lucky but we aren't all pink and pale!

Texture & Finish
The marketing blurb say this a gel foundation but I would have to say it's more on the creamy mousse side of things, this stuff is thick!!!
The coverage is also thick but I don't mean that in a bad way, I needed the tiniest blob to give me full coverage while looking completely natural. It literally looks like second skin which is quite amazing for a matte foundation.
The finish is indeed velvety but without looking powdery, this as a natural radiance that prevents it looking flat or dull.
The best part of this is that I really does work on dry skin, it doesn't accentuate flaky patches and doesn't dehydrate my skin any further like most matte foundations do.

Application
Stippling brush all the way! I've tried a buffing brush and it makes it look quite heavy and using a Beauty Blender used up way too much product.
I found with the stippling brush the products is distributed evenly and gave the best full but natural finish.

Longevity
I can easily get a full days wear out of this without needing any touch-ups, it will look perfect from the minute you put it on to the minute you take it off. In fact I'm gonna go on record and say that this wear better on me than my beloved Estee Lauder Double Wear!
I will say however that this isn't transfer-proof, the first time I tried this I did not set it and it got all over my phone so a powder is a must.

The foundation retails at £7.99 for 30ml and will last you ages considering how much you need.
At the minute both Boots and Superdrug have a buy one get one half price offer on select Maybelline so it's a chance to grab yourself a bit of a bargain too.
